At Lindemann Chimney Service in Northern Chicago we are concerned about your safety. Recently in Newport News a garage burned as a result of a fire sparked from a central heating unit. The fire is attributed to no chimney cap/spark arrestor.
Chimney caps are important on any chimney but a spark arrestor is particularly important on chimneys venting any woodburning appliance whether it’s a woodstove, central wood heater, fireplace or even an exterior fireplace.
Sparks can travel, especially in windy conditions. The wind can also fan the spark into flames which makes it an even more dangerous situation. In the case above, the spark traveled to a woodpile that was stored next to the garage and ignited the wood pile which in turn ignited the garage.
In addition, chimney caps protect your chimney from damaging moisture, chimney intrusion from critters, leaves, debris and more. It’s a very important investment in the preservation of your home. Not having a chimney cap is kind of like having an open skylight in your roof where the elements and critters have ready access.
We would be happy to show you the options we have for chimney caps. We have basic caps, decorative caps and even fireplace damper cap /spark arrestor combinations. Click here to contact us or give us a call at 847-918-7994.
